7th WAFFEN SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen DOGTAG ID

The 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division "Prinz Eugen" (7. SS-Freiwilligen Gebirgs-Division "Prinz Eugen"),[1] initially named the SS-Volunteer Division Prinz Eugen (SS-Freiwilligen-Division "Prinz Eugen"), was a mountain infantry division of the Waffen-SS, an armed branch of the German Nazi Party that served alongside but was never formally part of the Wehrmacht during World War II. At the post-war Nuremberg trials, the Waffen-SS was declared to be a criminal organisation due to its major involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity. From 1942 to 1945, the division fought a counter-insurgency campaign against communist-led Yugoslav Partisan resistance forces in occupied Yugoslavia. It was formed in 1941 from both Reich Germans and Volksdeutsche – ethnic German volunteers and conscripts from the Banat, Independent State of Croatia, Hungary and Romania. The division surrendered on 11 May 1945 to Yugoslav Partisan forces, with thousands of stragglers surrendering by the 15th near the Austrian border.

Original WWII Waffen SS EM/NCO’S SIGNALS SLEEVE DIAMOND. (Nachrichtenpersonal Ärmelabzeichen) Certified. The wearing of specific, identifying, trade or speciality badges was an old tradition in the German army and was adopted by the Waffen-SS, (Armed-SS), to distinguish personnel who had successful completed the appropriate course and had achieved proficiency at a particular trade, specialty or function. Initially Waffen-SS personnel wore the circular army pattern insignia, but eventually developed their own diamond patterned insignia. The SS pattern insignia consisted of a black wool diamond base with silver/aluminum thread emblems for all personnel for wear on the black service uniform. With the introduction of the field-grey uniform all ranks were to wear the insignia done in silver/grey threads and the silver/aluminum versions were to be worn only by Officers ranks with the walking-out dress. The trade/specialty insignia was to be worn on the lower left sleeve of the field blouse and the service tunic by qualified personnel and this example indicates a qualified Signals EM/NCO. Of Note: The RZM, Reichzeugmeisterei, (National Equipment Quartermaster), was officially founded in June 1934 in Munich by the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), as a Reich Hauptamt, (State Central Office), and was based on the earlier SA ,Sturm Abteilung, (Storm/Assault Detachment), Quartermaster’s Department. The functions of the RZM were not only to procure and distribute items to Party formations, but also to approve chosen designs and to act as a quality control supervisor to ensure items manufactured for the Party met required specification and were standardized. Starting in late 1934 items manufactured for the SS came under the quality control of the RZM and were marked with a RZM/SS approval/acceptance tags. In 1943 the Waffen-SS assumed full control over their uniform item production and no longer fell under the authority of the RZM. Roughly, 70mm tall, 45mm wide, vertical, black wool diamond base featuring a machine embroidered, downward pointing, “blitz” arrow in silvery/grey rayon threads. The reverse of the insignia has a semi-translucent, glue like protective backing mostly intact. Excellent untouched example. Nice used example showing the expected age (see photos) almost mint. 100% Guaranteed to be authentic Brought home by a U.S. solider as a trophy of war. SS items are very collectible and difficult to find in good condition. Complete museum documentation (COA) Provided. Certified by The Gettysburg Museum of History. The Gettysburg Museum of History does not support or condone Adolf Hitler or the Nazi Party and is only offering this as a historic relic. Please see our other items.
