Anti-Jewish Book Julius Streicher’s HOFJUDEN Star of David Holocaust Antisemitic Der Sturmer
jewish star of david book Hofjuden Julius Streicher book original 1938
This book even alarmed many Nazis when it was first published by the most ardent anti-Jewish man in Germany during the Third Reich - Julius Streicher - in 1939. Streicher was the publisher of Der Stürmer (The Attacker), a newspaper printed in Nürnberg and given over in its entirety to anti-Jewish articles, photos, features, news items and cartoons.

While the content of Hofjuden is without question extremely anti-Jewish, the book does provide a good deal of otherwise obscure genealogical data and fascinating European history not easily found elsewhere.
Naturally, Hofjuden was at the top of the Allied Denazification Commission list of virulent Nazi literature when World War II ended in 1945, and thus very few copies of the book survive. Examples of this book are very difficult to locate and when they can be found they are hard to purchase and very expensive.
Hofjuden (“Jews of the Court” or “Palace Jews”) was written for Streicher by Peter Deeg and sought to trace the influence of Palace Jews (Jews employed by the Royal Courts) in the monarchies of Europe from the Middle Ages through World War I.
Streicher intended it to be the first of several volumes examining the questions of, “Jews, Jewish Criminals, and Jewish Law in Germany Throughout History.” Hofjuden (pronounced hOf-youden) was begun by Deeg in 1936 and completed in time for a very proud Julius Streicher to present a copy to German Chancellor Adolf Hitler in the fall of 1938.
Over 50 historic photographs reproduced on glossy paper augment a voluminous text followed by a comprehensive index to Archives and libraries, as well as an ordinary index. There is a double sided fold-out chart measuring over 8 x 30 inches that traces the lineage of the families Rothschild, Goldschmidt and Rothschild-Goldschmidt, and depicts their precise relationship to Jews in the employ of specific European royalty. The hardcover book measures 6 x 8-1/2 inches and contains 600 pages.
